NEW DELHI: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday met West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and pledged his party’s support to Trinamool Congress in the upcoming assembly elections.
“It is Lalu Ji’s decision to provide full support to Mamata Ji. Our first priority is to stop BJP from coming to power in Bengal,” Tejashwi said after the meeting.
Mamata Banerjee acknowledged the much-needed support from the RJD and said, “Tejashwi bhai is fighting, so we are fighting and vice versa.”
Though RJD is in alliance with the Congress in some states, in Bengal it has decided to align with Mamata Banerjee’s TMC and not the Congress.
Mamata faces one of her toughest challenge in the assembly elections with the BJP going all out to dethrone her from power.
West Bengal is all set to see a three-cornered contest with the Congress and the Left parties joining hands to challenge both the BJP and the TMC.
