NEW DELHI: Puducherry Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has ordered a floor test in the assembly on February 22 for the Union territory’s Congress government headed by V Narayansamy.
The Union territory’s Congress-led government lost its majority after one more party MLA quit the party on Tuesday.
Congress MLA A John Kumar resigned from his MLA post and the party on Tuesday, becoming the fourth legislator to quit the assembly since last month.
That reduced the numbers of the Congress-led alliance to 14 in the assembly with an effective strength of 28.
In a sudden development the same day, Kiran Bedi was removed as Lt Governor of Puducherry, with President Ram Nath Kovind giving additional charge of the UT to the Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
Soundararajan was sworn in on Thursday. Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Sanjib Banerjee administered the oath of office to her at a simple function at the Raj Nivas.
