While addressing a press conference from Congress headquarters in Delhi, Gandhi said the PM has “not fulfilled the responsibility of protecting India’s territory” and has instead ceded territory to China.
“The PM is a coward who cannot stand up to the Chinese. He is spitting on the sacrifice of our army. He is betraying the sacrifice of our army. Nobody in India should be allowed to do it” Gandhi said.
Gandhi’s remarks come a day after India and China reached an agreement on disengagement in the North and South bank of Pangong lake in eastern Ladakh.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh had on Thursday said India and China have agreed to convene the next meeting of their senior commanders, within 48 hours after completing the disengagement in the Pangong Lake area, to “address and resolve all other remaining issues”.
As per the agreement reached with the Chinese side, any structures built by both sides since April 2020 in north and south bank areas will be removed and landforms restored.
The issue of Depsang Plains or Bulge area as well as other trouble-spots like Gogra-Hotsprings and Charding Ninglung Nallah (CNN) track junction in the Demchok sector are likely to come up in the next meeting with China.
The Congress leader said that the area till Finger 4 in Pangong is India’s territory and asked PM to explain why the soldiers have been asked to move to Finger 3.
“It is clear PM Modi has given India’s land to China,” said Gandhi.
Why have Chinese troops not moved back from Gogra-Hot Springs, Depsang plains, asked Gandhi, while also criticising government for agreeing to vacate the Kailash Range heights.
“The defence minister didn’t speak a word on the most important strategic area – Depsang Plains – from where China had entered. The truth is that the Prime Minister has given away the Indian territory to China. He must answer to the country,” said Gandhi.
