NEW DELHI: Amid confirmation of troop disengagement in Ladakh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the armed forces would ensure India’s prestige was never compromised.
He also asserted there would be no letup in efforts to upgrade border infrastructure. “Our defence forces are fulfilling their responsibility of protecting our border. The nation is proud of its jawans,” the PM said and lauded soldiers for their bravery, strength and sacrifice.
‘Jawans did duties in adverse conditions’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the country had to face several difficulties but the jawans were alert and did not disappoint.
“They performed their duties in adverse conditions and we are very proud of them,” he said.
Hitting out at Congress for “ignoring” border infrastructure, the Prime Minister said that it was a huge lapse that no attention was paid in this direction. “Once, a defence minister had said that border infrastructure was not being developed as it might be used by enemy countries,” Modi said. The Prime Minister further stated that 75 bridges were being constructed on the Line of Actual Control and more than 75% of infrastructure development work had already been completed.
Replying to the motion of thanks on the President’s address, the PM said the speech by Rashtrapatiji showcased the country’s “sankalp shakti”. “His words have boosted the spirit of confidence among the people of the country.”
