The survey report, compiled and released by Serbian crowdsourced data platform Numbero, gave the country a safety index score of 55.7.

The United States has got 89th position in the list.

Neighbouring Pakistan has been ranked a little better than their arch-rivals, though not by much. It is ranked just above India as the 65th safest country with an index score of 56.3. Palestine, despite the ongoing deadly conflict with Israel in Gaza, also ranked better than India at number 61.

To devise the “safety index by country for 2025,” Numbeo rated 146 nations based on the overall level of crime, as “derived from surveys conducted by visitors” to their website.

Andorra has been ranked as the safest nation in that regard, scoring 84.7 on the index. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Taiwan, and Oman make up the rest of the top 5 on the list.

On the other side, Venezuela is ranked as the most unsafe country according to the list, with a low index score of 19.3. Papua New Guinea, Haiti, Afghanistan, and South Africa are the next worst in terms of crime on the list.

How does the Numbero ranking system work?

Numbero derives its data from surveys conducted by visitors to its website. The surveys focus solely on crime levels in a nation, and the platform puts together a crime index as well as a safety index twice a year.

The data used in preparation of the list is no more than 36 months old. The countries selected to feature on the list are based on the minimum number of contributors to the survey.

Among the topics that the survey touches upon is the general perception of crime levels in a country, perceived safety for the travellers and concerns about specific crimes. Survey contributors are also asked about property and violent crimes in a nation.
