For the first time in history, Surya Kiran, flying the fixed-wing Hawks and Sarang, flying the rotary-wing ALH (Advanced Light Helicopter) are putting up an integrated show.
A few days before the start of Aero India, Surya Kiran aerobatics team collided mid-air where Wing Commander Sahil Gandhi succumbed to injuries. However, Surya Kiran displayed ‘missing man formation’ in memory of Gandhi.
The 13th edition of Aero India will be starting from Wednesday and will end on Friday. This is also be the first hybrid (physical and virtual) air show. As per officials, 601 exhibitors, including 523 from India and 78 from 14 foreign countries are expected to participate in the event. 248 virtual exhibitors have registered to the event as well.
Only 3,000 visitors will be allowed at the flight display venue each day due to the Covid-19 restrictions in place. A negative Covid-19 RT-PCR test report (dated January 31, 9 am or later) is also mandatory to attend the three-day event.
Attendees joining the event virtually can participate in seminars, interact with the exhibitors and representatives, hold B2B meetings and can also view the product details and supporting videos. According to the organisers, at least 41 Indian aircraft take part in the inaugural fly-past. The LCA Tejas and Rafale will be the highlight in the fixed-wing aircraft category other than the Su-30. A host of choppers including LUH (light utility helicopter) will also be flying.
